In 2008 author William Beahen reached a turning point in his life : retirement from a long, satisfying career, no clear idea of what the future would hold aside from a vague concept of wanting to help those of need in the community and, on the positive side, a pending marriage. By 2008, Bill Beahen had reached one of life’s critical turning points. His recent retirement from an entirely satisfying career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police had been a wrench, especially since he had no clear idea of what the future would hold, aside from a vague concept of wanting to help those of need in the community. Moreover, he was about to marry a wonderful woman and he was considering how he could best contribute to a successful union.
A longstanding and close friend suggested that he walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Bill was attracted to the idea. After a stint of rigorous training, he set out on April 30, 2008, to cross the Pyrenees Mountains in the first stage of the journey.
What took place over the next thirty-two days led to a life transformation for Bill through his experience with nature, his interactions with fellow travellers, and a growing awareness that he walked with God. His questions were answered ; but much more than that, the journey led him to a new awareness of his purpose in life.
